James (Jim) Curtis is Vice President and Senior Counsel at Bank of the West. He advises clients regarding UCC Articles 3, 4 and 4A, retail bank operations, regulatory compliance and contracts. Curtis has taught the course in Commercial Paper at USC Law since 1993.
Curtis was presented with the 2006 Compliance Professional Award by the California Bankers Association. The award is given annually in recognition of dedication to excellence, leadership and advancement of the compliance profession, and service to the banking industry. In 2012, Curtis was presented with the Distinguished Instructor Award by UCLA Extension. The award recognizes exemplary teaching, professional knowledge and standing, and outstanding commitment to students. Curtis has taught the course in Contracts for UCLA Extension’s Paralegal Training Program since 1988. In 2015, the California Bankers Association presented Curtis with the banking attorney of the year award, the Almon McCallum Award.
Curtis earned his B.A. degree with High Honors from Eastern Illinois University and his J.D. degree from USC Law, where he served as Vice Chair of the Hale Moot Court Honors Program.
