Course Description

WTO/GATT Agreements, other multilateral and bilateral free trade agreements, as well as U.S. domestic trade law.  We will examine the basic provisions of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the other core WTO Agreements including, the trade agreements on intellectual property rights (TRIPS), services (GATS) and investment (TRIMS); WTO dispute settlement procedures and jurisprudence including recent decisions; and unilateral trade remedies. 

We will integrate the discussions on these substantive areas with an examination of current and evolving issues related to international trade rules such as the re-negotiation of NAFTA, current plurilateral negotiations in the WTO, regional trade agreement initiatives, trade disputes with China, trade measures to mitigate climate change, trade of natural resources and environmental conservation-related goods and services, foreign direct investment, and trade concerns related to developing countries.
