Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) program is designed for international attorneys, judges, government officials, prosecutors, corporate legal counsel, bankers, and recent law graduates who are interested in receiving a degree in American law and the U.S. legal system, and prepares them for leadership roles in the global market. Through the LL.M. Program held at the University Park campus, foreign lawyers have a chance to meet and interact not only with the faculty and J.D. students, but also with practicing lawyers from around the world.

Unlike many programs where you may get "lost in the crowd", we are committed to making your experience at USC the best that it can be. Our office of Graduate and International Programs (G&IP) at USC Gould School of Law is here to serve you. We provide end-to-end service from admissions to orientation and registration for your classes. You will see that life in Los Angeles can be a lot of fun! We host many social events that bring our student community of LL.M., M.C.L. and J.D. students together throughout the year. Our J.D.-LL.M. Partnership Program is immensely popular and one of a kind.

At USC, we understand that coming to the U.S. to study can be quite challenging and we want you to "feel at home". USC hosts the largest number of international students of any university in the U.S. and our Office of International Services is a great resource for our students as they assist with immigration needs and issues and provide a wealth of information on studying in the U.S.

Our LL.M. students are provided with academic support study sessions throughout the fall semester. USC Gould School of Law students learn studying techniques, tools for exam preparation and have the opportunity to review their coursework with professors. Students can also enroll in our Summer Law and English Program, a four-week intensive program that helps students prepare for their LL.M. studies with the basics of American law and English language instruction.

Our G&IP office offers career development services and workshops for students including resume and cover letter writing, successful interviewing and networking to job search strategies. We also offer an Early Bar Preparation program and other Bar Exam workshops. Our students participate in the International Student Interview Program (ISIP) job fair in New York and the West Coast Job Fair in Los Angeles each spring.

LL.M. students network with leading professionals in the field at our Tax, Entertainment, Corporate & Business, Real Estate and Intellectual Property Institutes. We have specially planned outings for our LL.M. students, including a night at the Hollywood Bowl, a USC Trojan football game, networking events, and a Los Angeles basketball game at Staples Center.

With our legendary Southern California weather, why would you go anywhere else? In the winter, when cities like New York, Boston and Chicago are frozen beneath the snow and ice, you can count on warm sunshine here in Los Angeles. Our students are active all year round, enjoying the beaches of Malibu, hikes in the Hollywood Hills, and skiing at resorts on Big Bear, all within easy driving distance from USC.

USC is an integral part of the cosmopolitan and dynamic Los Angeles community, with countless opportunities to learn about how the law operates in American society. From small biotech start-up companies, to huge giants in aerospace, shipping, and of course, entertainment and media, the tremendous variety of industries and government is unmatched anywhere.

USC is known worldwide for our "Trojan Family", which describes the strong loyalty felt by USC graduates toward their school and toward each other. USC has a network of eight international offices in Beijing, China; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Hong Kong; Mumbai, India; Seoul, Korea; Mexico City, Mexico; Shanghai, China; and Taipei, Taiwan. These offices promote our University and coordinate international alumni activities.
