USC Gould School of Law's curriculum is comprehensive and designed to challenge-qualities that have earned us a reputation for offering the finest legal education available. Our scholarly yet practical approach ensures that you gain the skills and perspective every lawyer needs to practice, teach, enter public service or work in business. Our LL.M. students may select from a wide variety of classes during their studies.
Please note that course selection varies each semester depending on interest and availability. We are continually working to add courses to meet our students' interests and needs and may have new offerings that are not listed below.
Students interested in the Entertainment Law, Business Law, or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) certificates are required to complete 14 credits in entertainment law, business law, or ADR respectively. In addition to the total credit requirement, each of these certificates requires completion of mandatory courses. More information on the mandatory and elective courses available for each certificate can be found here. Examples of past courses are listed below; please note these lists are not exhaustive, and the courses offered may be subject to change depending on availability.

We offer a number of LL.M.-only courses, including Introduction to the US Legal System and Topics in American Law, which provide students with an effective and efficient overview of American Law. We find that offering courses exclusively to LL.M. students allows professors to tailor the instruction and materials of the course to the needs of foreign-educated students. This can be particularly effective for students who are non-native English speakers. Additionally, students can focus on some of the specifically-tested bar subjects such as Constitutional Law and Contracts in LL.M.-only sections. Our students report that learning these materials in courses geared specifically towards LL.M. students have been helpful in preparing for the exams.
