Application Requirements:
Master of Dispute Resolution (MDR) Degree

To apply for admission, complete an online application through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). After you create your LSAC account, follow the instructions below for applying to USC Gould.

Creating an LSAC applicant account requires a one-time fee of $85. As a courtesy and to help applicants offset this cost, we have waived USC Gould School of Law’s separate application fee for all applicants to our MDR Program. We highly recommend that you only submit one application to the degree of most interest to you. We would be happy to consider you for one of our other degrees. Once you have submitted your application to your first-choice program, please email gipadmissions@law.usc.edu to let us know you have applied and to indicate any additional degree for which you would like to be considered.

We do not require work experience or an LSAT score to be considered for admission to any of our graduate degrees.

Required Application Materials

Among the required information and documents you will submit through LSAC are:

  • Online LSAC Application
  • Transcripts from all institutions attended, including bachelor’s degree and/or law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent), and degree verification for foreign institutions
  • Students must have earned their bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
    • Students who have earned their degree in the U.S. must have graduated from an ABA-approved law school. A waiver of the ABA-approved law school requirement will be considered upon request.
  • Personal Statement - two to three pages that describe your personal, academic and professional background, and your reasons for applying
  • Résumé or curriculum vitae


Domestic Applicants: We must receive official transcripts to consider your application and must be received directly from the university. Please have your official transcripts sent to:

International Applicants: If you hold any degree from outside the United States, you are required to submit your official transcripts through the LSAC Credential Assembly Service. Transcripts must be evaluated through LSAC’s Document Assembly Service (DAS) and International Transcript Authentication and Evaluation Service (ITAES). You will need to subscribe to the following LSAC services:

  • Document Assembly Service: $85
  • International Transcript Authentication and Evaluation Service: $135
  • Law School Report: $30

Please note transcripts must be submitted directly to LSAC by the university and may not be mailed to USC Gould school of Law. Please click here for detailed instructions on submitting your transcripts to LSAC. International applicants who do not choose this additional service on the LSAC application will not be reviewed.

Admitted international applicants, who decide to enroll in the ADR Program, may receive a $220 credit for LSAC fees. This credit will be applied toward tuition upon enrollment.

International Applicants:

The following additional items are required for applicants educated outside the United States:

  • TOEFL or IELTS report (no minimum score is required) for internationally educated applicants
    • USC's TOEFL institutional code is 4852 and the department code is 03.
    • Test scores are valid for two years from the date taken.

International applicants also are required to submit a financial statement and other additional materials.

If you opt to submit your financial documents after you receive an admissions decision, please note that your application status will remain “incomplete,” even though your file will have been reviewed by the Admissions Committee.


Full-time students may apply for the fall semester only. Part-time students may apply for the fall or spring semester.

To be considered for admission, you must apply by the deadline. The priority deadline for the fall semester is April 1, and for the spring semester is October 1.

Admission decisions are normally released within two to four weeks of application submission. Admission decisions are sent by email. No admission decisions will be released by phone.

Application Status Check

After you submit your application through LSAC, we will send you a confirmation email that provides you with a username and password for the LSAC Online Status Check system. Then you may log in and create a new, personalized password, and periodically check your application status.

Admission Decisions

Admissions decisions are made four to six weeks after we have received your completed application. We accept applications on a rolling basis, as space is available. You will be notified via email and postal mail. No admissions decisions will be released over the phone. We will contact you if the Admissions Committee feels that a telephone or an in-person interview is necessary.
