Los Angeles, Latinos and the Law     LAW-774

We will examine the seminal legal events and cases relevant to Latinos in Los Angeles history, starting with the founding of "El Pueblo" and continuing through the modern day. Among other events and issues, we will take a close look at criminal justice in early Los Angeles, the Mexican repatriation of the 1930s, the Zoot Suit Riots in 1943 (and the trial that preceded it), the landmark integration case Mendez v. Westminster (1946), the building of Dodger Stadium and the Eastside Freeways, and the federal judicial intervention into political redistricting in 1990.
