Federal Indian Law     LAW-750

This course provides an introduction to the doctrines of Indian law governing the legal relationship between the United States, states, and Indian tribes. It examines the history of federal Indian law and policies governing tribal property, treaty rights, tribal sovereignty, and the many unique legal relationships between tribes, the federal government and local governments. The course explores the changing legal eras of Federal Indian law jurisprudence from removal, assimilation, termination, to self-determination as well as analyze current issues facing Indian Country.
