Library Cards
All USC students, Faculty and staff can use their USC ID card to borrow materials from the Law Library, as well as from all other libraries on campus.
Borrowing Materials
Patrons may borrow library materials as described below:
- Most single volume texts: until the end of the current semester
- Bound journals and audiotapes: overnight by law students; "Library Use Only" for other patrons
The following items are limited to "Library Use Only" for all patrons:
- Primary sources (including codes and reporters)
- Reserve items from Open Reserve (including current standard treatises and unbound journals)
- Reserve items from Closed Reserve (checked out from the Service Counter for "2 hour Library Use Only")
- Multi-volume treatises and looseleafs
- Videotapes
Renewing Materials
You may renew borrowed materials once by phone, subject to another patron's recall. Call (213) 740-2825 and ask for Circulation.
Returning Materials
Please return all materials to the Service Counter on or before the date or time due. It is expected that all Law Library users will return materials promptly so that others may have access to them. You will receive an "Overdue Notice" for materials that are not returned on time. Failure to respond after a second notice will result in suspension of Law Library borrowing privileges until the materials are returned or payment is made for replacement. Grades and/or graduation also will be held if items checked out in your name are still unreturned at the end of a semester.
Lost/Damaged Books
Borrowers are responsible for Law Library materials charged out on their account which are lost or damaged. Charges are made for repair or replacement.
We request that patrons who discover damaged books in the Law Library bring them to the Service Counter or Reference Office so that they can be repaired.
