Learn about the legal scholarship of Bernadette Atuahene, Frances R. and John J. Duggan Professor of Law at the USC Gould School of Law. Atuahene is a property law scholar focusing on land stolen from people in the African Diaspora. Her latest book project, Plundered: How Racist Policies Undermine Black Homeownership in America (Little, Brown & Company, 2025), addresses housing injustice and is based on her five-year research into Detroit’s property tax foreclosure crisis. Her work has been featured recently in various national and international news outlets, including The Guardian and the Boston Globe.
