The USC Gould School of Law has established a new partnership with the Taipei Bar Association through a memorandum of understanding that took effect in October. Under the agreement, qualified members of the Taipei Bar Association who earn admission to USC Gould’s on-campus Master of Laws (LLM) programs will be eligible for a scholarship covering a portion of tuition.

“This agreement strengthens our continued efforts to expand USC Gould’s global engagement,” says USC Gould Dean Franita Tolson. “We look forward to connecting with accomplished attorneys, whose broad range of professional experiences and international perspectives will enrich the learning environment inside the classroom.”
USC Gould’s alumni community includes more than 200 graduates from Taiwan, many of whom return to work in Taipei after their legal studies and have gone on to become members of the Taipei Bar Association.
The new partnership developed through the work of USC Gould’s Graduate and International Programs Office, which also facilitated an institutional partnership in India earlier this year. LLM student Larry Hsu initially connected the law school with Taipei Bar Association President Sonya Hsu.
In its first collaboration, USC Gould and Taipei Bar Association hosted a joint webinar in December to provide Bar members with information about USC Gould’s academic programs and the newly established scholarship. USC Gould representatives will also plan to travel to Taipei twice each year and meet with Bar members.
“This partnership not only creates a pathway for qualified legal professionals to pursue graduate studies in the heart of Los Angeles, but it also reinforces the presence of USC alumni in the global legal community,” notes Tolson.
