The Hon. Alfred Hoyun Song ’49, the first Korean-American admitted to the California Bar and to serve in California State Legislature, will be commemorated posthumously by USC Friday with the unveiling of a memorial monument in Koreatown.

Song’s legislative record includes the creation of the California Evidence Code, leadership on enhanced enforcement of child support, tightening of consumer protection laws, support of press freedom and improving the quality of available healthcare.

Song, who died in 2004, graduated from USC with a bachelor’s degree in government in 1942 and completed his J.D. in 1949 and LL.M. degree in 1957 at USC Gould School of Law.

The etched stainless steel monument stands 10 feet tall and serves as a testament to Song’s accomplishments.

The public is invited to attend Friday’s ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Koreatown.

Brief remarks will be made by:

·         USC President C.L. Max Nikias.
