Barrett Schreiner joined the faculty at #USCGould this fall as associate professor of lawyering skills and associate director of Gould's Academic Success program. Alongside Director Sara Berman, Schreiner teaches courses aimed at helping students refine their analysis and writing skills.

"Traditional law school pedagogy is not a great match for all students, and a lot of my work is about equity in legal education … giving students the access, opportunities and support they need to thrive academically and otherwise. Earlier this week, #USCGould hosted the 2023 Justice Lester W. Roth Lecture, featuring The Honorable Judge Reena Raggi of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Judge Raggi’s topic centered around “Juries, Liberty, and the Administration of Justice.”

In the lecture, Judge Raggi spotlighted the value of juries to the American justice system: "I saw people from various diverse ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds, people who otherwise would have no occasion to come in contact with each other, retire to jury rooms to apply the administration of justice," she said. "It is the spirit of liberty in action."

“My students are curious about how the law will be used to regulate AI, how IP laws will apply to new AI models, and the ethical and professional issues around the use of AI,” says #USCGould Prof. Jonathan Choi.

Choi joined Gould's faculty this fall and specializes in law and #artificialintelligence, tax law and statutory interpretation. Among the panelists and speakers were Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero (keynote speaker) and Fabricio Lopez, assistant general counsel for The Walt Disney Company.

Meet #USCGould's inaugural first-year cohort of Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies students. Students in the cohort come from 11 states and join more than 300 students enrolled in Gould’s undergraduate degree and minor programs (@uscgouldundergrad). A paper written by 3L Bryce Lourié, “The Legal Battle to Save the Southern Residents,” will be published in the December issue of the environmental law and policy journal, Environs (@ucdavisenvirons). Written for his Ocean and Coastal Law course with #USCGould Prof. Robin Craig, the paper focuses on the dwindling population of Southern Resident killer whales, a small population of orcas that live in the Pacific Northwest. After graduation, Bryce is set to continue advocating for marine conservation and biodiversity at Greenberg Glusker LLP in Los Angeles. Read the full story at the link in our bio.
