USC Law staff host information sessions overseas -By Lori Craig Most prospective students make a personal connection to the USC Gould School of Law before enrolling here. They stroll the tree-lined campus and engage with students, faculty and staff and decide that USC Law is the place for them. It's not so easy with students applying to the Graduate and International Programs (G&IP), including the Master of Law, Master of Comparative Law, visiting and exchange programs. Instead, the G&IP staff do their best to bring USC Law to them. “Each year, the Graduate and International Programs Office holds admissions events around the world,” says Anne Marlenga, assistant director of G&IP. “We visit Asia annually and work with the USC international offices in Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei and Shanghai. They assist us in planning the events and promoting them to prospective students. We also host dinners in each location for USC Law alumni.” Marlenga recently traveled to Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei, where she held information sessions, attended by between 25 and 50 people each. Prospective students already hold law degrees, usually from their home countries, and many are mid-career professionals employed in the legal, business or government sectors. Marlenga also hosted alumni dinners in each location, with about 15 alumni each, including two J.D. alumni each in Seoul and Tokyo and one J.D. alumnus in Taipei.
