MEDIA ADVISORY

GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER ALLOWS RELEASE OF
BATTERED WOMAN SERVING 29 YEARS IN PRISON AND
REPRESENTED BY USC LAW STUDENT

WHAT:  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger did not reverse a parole board’s recommendation today to release a woman who has spent 29 years in prison for sitting in a car while her husband robbed and killed a shop owner. Connie Keel, of Santa Monica, was represented by USC Law student Adam Reich.

This is one of the few times Schwarzenegger has not blocked a prisoner’s release on the Parole Board’s first recommendation.

Keel will be released from California Institution for Women in three to five days.

WHO: Adam Reich, second-year law student, and Heidi Rummel and Michael Brennan, supervising attorneys and USC Law professors, are available for press interviews at USC Law School.

They will be available for press interviews immediately following Keel’s release from the California Institution for Women in Corona next week. The date has not yet been determined.

WHERE: USC Law School, 699 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles
