More than 300 connect through shared career interests

First-year students and alumni united to make this year’s Mentor Lunch the highest-attended ever. A total of 166 students and 174 alumni working in myriad disciplines came together in Town and Gown for the Feb. 26 event.

The annual luncheon joins 1Ls with alumni working in the students’ fields of interest. With nine to 10 people seated at each table, students had the opportunity to personally connect with up to six alumni mentors. Among the career choices represented by the alumni in attendance were civil litigation; banking; entertainment, corporate, criminal and family law; public interest; government and more.

Dean Robert K. Rasmussen welcomed the alumni and 1Ls and thanked them for being part of a USC Law tradition that involves giving back to the school and its current students.

“What I really want to emphasize for the students here is our alums give back in so many ways,” Rasmussen said. “You give back financially, you give back of your time, you come back and teach at the law school, you hire our graduates, and you serve as mentors to our students. You share in our successes and it’s your accomplishments and what you give back that make us a great law school.”
