Students likely already visit YouTube to see singers, goofy animals, or politicians. Now, they can catch a recent law lecture or see moments from different USC Law events on the video-sharing web site.

USC Law on YouTubeThe USC Gould School of Law has established its own section of the new USC YouTube Channel. Launched last month, the USC Law sub-Channel, found at http://www.youtube.com/USCGould, houses 33 videos, including all of Professor Tom Lyon’s lectures from his spring evidence class, a tour of USC Law organizations and Professor Jody Armour’s lecture from the first day of classes Aug. 27.

“We constantly seek ways to improve our ability to offer technology-enhanced learning,” Associate Dean Pauline Aranas said. “The law school’s YouTube channel gives us the opportunity to share content with our law school community as well as with the global community.”

Prospective students who visit the site will find information on admissions and financial aid from the most recent USC Law Preview Day, interviews about the Rothman Scholarship program, and details about Graduate and International Programs at the law school.

The site is just getting started and was populated with videos already on hand, said Senior Web Architect Nasi Peretz, who helped develop the site.

“The idea down the line is to record and share some first-day-of-class lectures from all our professors,” Peretz said. “Say you’re a second-year student and you want to know what classes to take: You can go to the page and the videos there might help you make your decision.”

As a sub-Channel of the university, the USC Law YouTube page has minimal advertising. Any of the revenue generated by those ads will go to scholarships for students, Peretz said.

USC Law’s channel is one of seven established by schools including the USC School of Cinematic Arts, USC Marshall School of Business, USC Viterbi School of Engineering, USC College, USC School of Social Work and USC Thornton School of Music. The main USC Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/USC) and the sub-Channels are all prominently linked to the law school’s channel, making more than 225 videos easily accessible.
