Conference brings probate experts

Attorneys David Lane and John D. Raskin will present keynotes

Attorneys David Lane and John D. Raskin will present keynote addresses at the USC Law 32nd Annual Probate and Trust Conference, to be held Friday, Nov. 17, at the Wilshire Grand Hotel. 

Mr. Lane, an adjunct professor at USC Law who has a private practice emphasizing estate planning and trust law, will present the opening address highlighting recent developments in probate and trust law.

Probate and Trust ConferenceMr. Raskin, a State Bar of California certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law, will present “Using Collaborative Law in Estate Disputes,” which will focus on the Family Law model of Collaborative Practice as a valuable estate dispute resolution model for both estate planners and litigators.

In addition to the presentations by Mr. Lane and Mr. Raskin, Kristine Cazadd, chief counsel of the legal department for the State Board of Equalization, presents “Proposition 13 and Estate Planning: Using Available Exclusions to Avoid Reassessment.”

Other speakers include Conference Chair Kenneth S. Wolf of Hoffman, Sabban & Watenmaker; Conference Executive Director Leeanna Izuel, assistant dean of continuing legal education at USC Law; John J. Gallo, who chairs the Family Wealth Practice Group of Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Matchinger, LLP; Albert G. Handelman and John A. Hartog, of the California Trust & Estate Counselors LLP; Margaret “Meg” Lodise, partner at Sacks Glazier Franklin & Lodise LLP; and Blake A. Rummel, a shareholder of the Century City estate planning firm of Weinstock, Manion, Reisman, Shore & Neumann.

USC Law structured the day-long conference to address typical problems encountered in estate planning, trust and probate administration, client relationships, and law practice economics. Speakers focus on “how-to” techniques, provide and discuss forms used in their practices, and explain how they solve client problems.

The Probate and Trust Conference, sponsored by the USC Law Continuing Legal Education program, with contributions from Wells Fargo Bank and the Daily Journal Corporation, is one of six conferences and institutes hosted by the school each year.

For those who cannot attend, a conference syllabus – an up-to-date reference volume containing outlines, articles, forms and practical information prepared by conference speakers – will be available for purchase in both print and searchable CD-Rom formats after the conference.
