USC Gould tops The Hollywood Reporter list for entertainment
By Maria Iacobo
The Hollywood Reporter has ranked USC Gould first among law schools for entertainment. The seventh annual “Top 100 Power Lawyers” list, compiled by the venerable entertainment magazine, selected 16 USC Gould alumni to this roster, more than from any other law school. In addition, several other attorneys who serve on the board of USC Gould’s Continuing Legal Education program were also named to the prestigious list.
“We’re proud to have launched the careers of so many entertainment industry attorneys who have been recognized by The Hollywood Reporter for their professional achievements,” said Robert K. Rasmussen, dean of the USC Gould School of Law.
Alumni recognized among the “Top 100 Power Lawyers” are: Howard Fishman ’92, John Gatti ’88 , Tom Hansen ’78, Barry Hirsch ’57, Richard Kendall ’79, Deborah Klein ’85, Bob Myman ’70, Jeanne Newman ’80, Lawrence Rose ’84, Robert Schwartz ’84, P J Shapiro ’00, Larry Stein ’69, Fred Toczek '89, David Weber ’86, Susan Zuckerman Williams ’86 and Howard Weitzman ’65.
USC Gould’s Entertainment and Media Law Program offers skills-based courses with a unique emphasis on transactional issues. The curriculum exposes students to the legal and business issues that practitioners face in the motion picture, television, music, digital media, visual arts and sports markets. Students intern at leading entertainment law firms, studios, television networks and record labels in the Los Angeles area. Courses are taught by permanent faculty and adjunct faculty drawn from the rich Los Angeles community of entertainment and media lawyers, including partners at entertainment law firms and senior counsel at studios and television networks.
USC Gould’s Continuing Legal Education programs offer the annual Entertainment Law and Business Institute every fall. The event draws more than 650 professionals, who attend panel discussions that offer insider analysis and practical strategies for working in the industry. This year’s institute will be held on October 5 on the USC campus. The keynote speaker will be Kevin Tsujihara, CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
