Joseph Al Latham, Jr. is a partner in the Los Angeles, California, office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, an international law firm with over 1,000 lawyers. Latham represents employers in all aspects of labor relations and employment law. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at the USC Gould School of Law, where he has taught labor law for over a decade. 

Latham was President Reagan’s appointee as Staff Director of the United States Commission on Civil Rights from 1985-86, and was Chief Counsel to Member Patricia Diaz Dennis of the National Labor Relations Board from 1983-85. He is the author of articles published in Barron’s, the ABA Journal, Litigation, and the Employee Relations Law Journal. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and programs on employment law topics. He has been chosen by his peers for listing in The Best Lawyers in America and has been elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Latham received his BA degree, cum laude, from Yale in 1973, and his JD degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1976. In law school, Latham was an articles editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif.

"These kinds of bans and prohibitions only license the police to make more pre-text stops, and the Black community does not need more unjust interactions with police," he said.
