Jamie Beck co-teaches Trauma-Informed Legal Skills, an interdisciplinary course developed and taught with clinical psychologist, Dr. Remi Greenbaum. The course prepares future lawyers to understand how trauma affects clients, legal professionals, and legal practice and to integrate trauma-informed principles into client relationships, advocacy, and professional decision-making.

Beck’s scholarship examines the intersection of trauma, victimization, and the legal system. She is the author of “Survivors Behind Bars: The Criminalization of Abuse, Assault, and Human Trafficking and the Need for a Trauma-Informed Approach,” published in the Roger Williams University Law Review.

Beck is the founder and principal of Justice with Humanity, a global education and consulting practice dedicated to advancing trauma-informed, human-centered, and sustainable approaches across the legal and nonprofit sectors. Through Justice with Humanity, she develops educational programs and works with attorneys, legal organizations, nonprofits, and other justice-system professionals to strengthen trauma-informed practice, organizational culture, and professional sustainability.

Through JD Beck Consulting LLC, Beck provides expert witness, case consultation, and specialized training services related to human trafficking, domestic violence, trauma, and survivor-centered legal practice. She has trained thousands of attorneys, judges, law enforcement professionals, students, and community stakeholders on trauma-informed practices, human trafficking, and domestic violence.

Beck brings more than 15 years of legal experience to her teaching and consulting work. She previously founded and served as President and Managing Attorney of Free to Thrive, a nonprofit organization addressing the unmet legal needs of human trafficking survivors. Under her leadership, Free to Thrive helped hundreds of survivors navigate the legal system. Her direct legal experience includes representing survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual violence in matters involving criminal record relief, restraining orders, family law, victims’ rights, and other survivor-focused legal remedies. As part of a statewide coalition, Free to Thrive helped pass California’s AB 124 in 2021, expanding pathways for criminalized survivors of abuse, sexual violence, and human trafficking to avoid or reduce criminal punishment and clear convictions resulting from their victimization.

Earlier in her career, Beck practiced civil litigation at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch LLP and served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Michael M. Anello of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Beck is a past president of Lawyers Club of San Diego and founder of the Lawyers Club Human Trafficking Collaborative. Under her leadership, Lawyers Club successfully advocated for California legislation creating a pathway for human trafficking survivors to clear criminal convictions resulting from their exploitation, now codified at California Penal Code 236.14.

Beck earned her JD from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she served on the San Diego Law Review.
