Brian M. Hoffstadt has served as an associate justice on the California Court of Appeal since 2014. Prior to that time, he spent four years as a Los Angeles Superior Court judge, three and a half years as a partner in Jones Day's Issues and Appeals practice group, more than six years as assistant United States attorney prosecuting criminal cases and three years doing legal policy work in Washington, D.C. Right out of law school, he clerked for Ninth Circuit Judge Cynthia Holcomb Hall and Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Hoffstadt has for many years been a teacher to judges, lawyers and law students on a variety of topics. He is the author of California Criminal Discovery and is a regular contributor to the Daily Journal.
