Mary Ray is a deputy public defender at the office of the Los Angeles County Public Defender. She is currently works in a felony trial assignment at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. She handles many different types of cases including homicides, robberies, assaults, and domestic violence as well as sex cases. Prior to her current assignment she worked in the public defender’s training program. She joined the Public Defender’s office in 2017.

Prior to joining the public defender’s office she interned at the Los Angeles Public Law Library. Ray earned her juris doctor from Southwestern Law School in 2016 where she was president of Law Students for Reproductive Justice. Ray earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Religious Studies from San Diego State University. She currently teaches legal research at the USC Gould School of Law.
