New horizons: Commencement 2006

The Honorable George Herbert King, a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and a 1974 graduate of USC Law, will present the keynote address at the USC Law Class of 2006 commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 14.

Commencement will begin at 3 p.m. on the steps of the Von Kleinsmid Center (VKC) on the USC University Park Campus. A reception for graduates and their guests will follow in nearby Alumni Park.

USC Law Dean Matthew L. Spitzer will welcome the 216 students receiving juris doctor degrees and more than 60 international students who will receive their master of laws or master of comparative law degrees. The Class of 2006 international graduates represent 17 different countries, including Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Israel and the Czech Republic. 3L Class President Rosi Yoo and LL.M. candidate Louise Lien will share their reflections with their fellow graduates prior to Judge King's commencement address.

Judge King was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by President Clinton in 1995. He currently chairs the 9th Circuit Jury Instruction Committee and the Magistrate Judges Committee of the Central District of California. A Commencement 20061971 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, Judge King received a J.D. from USC Law, where he was a member of the Southern California Law Review, co-chair of the Hale Moot Court Executive Board, and was elected to the Order of the Coif upon graduation. Prior to serving as a judge, he practiced civil business litigation and was an Assistant United States Attorney.
