From housing rights to equal employment, for every cause there is an organization ready to serve the Los Angeles area, and USC Law students are ready to help.

Public Interest Career Fair 08Students considering a career in such service, and those who want to volunteer during their time in law school, attended the Public Interest Career Fair Nov. 12, sponsored by the Office of Public Service, the Career Services Office and the Public Interest Law Foundation. More than 200 students browsed the information booths of about 30 organizations stationed in Crocker Plaza. Representatives from each agency were on hand to answer questions and offer advice on pursuing a public interest career.

“The Fair is a great opportunity for students to meet local public interest leaders and to learn about career options as well as the myriad ways they can get involved with legal services and government agencies during law school,” said Malissa Barnwell Scott, student programs advisor in the Office of Public Service.

Among the agencies at the fair were the Alliance for Children’s Rights, Disability Rights Legal Center, Eviction Defense Network, Mental Health Advocacy Services, the Los Angeles County Public Defender and Neighborhood Legal Services.
