For the fourth year, USC Gould School of Law alumnae returned to campus for the Ruth J. Lavine ’43 Women in Law Symposium. Held March 3 at the USC Hotel Ballroom, the speakers this year were Dawyn Harrison (JD 1994), Lisa McLean (JD 2001), Whitney Fair (JD 2011) and Nadine Tan (JD 2015).
In addition to the panel discussion about their careers, approaches to leadership and success in the workplace, the symposium included a question-and-answer opportunity for the approximately 100 students, alumni and Gould community members in attendance. Welcome remarks were given by Professor Bob Rasmussen, the J. Thomas McCarthy Trustee Chair in Law and Political Science, and by Women’s Law Association Co-Presidents and 2Ls Cordelia Nguyen and Gabriela Tsudik. The event was named in honor of Lavine (LLB 1943), a pioneer in the legal practice who was an active supporter of USC Gould and its students until her passing in 2023, and several of Lavine’s family members attended, including Len and Cathy Unger, Dan Unger and Maura Covaci, and Laura, Nate and Jack Dudley.
