Garet, the Carolyn Craig Franklin Professor of Law and Religion, was recognized for his "furtherance of ethics and faculty rights, and for distinguished service as president of the Faculty Senate." A member of the Academic Senate, he has served as vice president, president of faculty, and chair of the Faculty Rights and Responsibilities Committee. He received a plaque at the senate's final meeting of the academic year, held on May 7. Associate Dean Greagory Keating introduced Garet for the occasion. "By his tireless service to our community, Ron has both epitomized and fostered attention to our ethical obligations as professors, educators and citizens of a great university, and to our ethical obligations to each other and the society at large in pursuing the increase and dissemination of knowledge," Keating said. "By being our conscience, Ron's efforts call on each of us to remain true to the ideals that brought us to the academy. "He leads by example and encourages us to be the best that we can be, and in so doing improves all of us." Garet joined USC Law since 1991 and teaches Constitutional Law; Law, Language and Ethics; and Topics in Constitutional Law and Religious Ethics.
