Two USC Law alumni were recognized at the 12th annual La Raza Judges and Lawyers Night March 28.

The evening event, held at Town and Gown on the USC campus, is hosted annually by the La Raza Law Students Association to recognize esteemed members of the legal community and connect students with local judges and lawyers.

The Honorable Gregory Munoz ’63, Orange County Superior Court judge, received the Judge Alberto Armendariz ’50 Award for community service, named for the civil rights leader who was the only Latino member of the USC Law Class of 1950.

Ileana Hernandez ’98 was honored with the Inspirational Alumnus Award, which celebrates the achievements of a USC Law graduate whose work embodies excellence in the legal field and a spirit of dedication to the Los Angeles community.

A partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles, Hernandez has represented, pro bono, Spanish-speaking families in adoption and guardianship cases, children seeking asylum in the United States, and battered women seeking permanent resident status.

La Raza members also offered a tribute to California Court of Appeal Justice Paul Boland ’66, who died in September 2007. Boland was a dedicated mentor to USC Law students and last spring received La Raza’s Judge Alberto Armendariz Award.
