The kickoff for USC's Law Firm Challenge 2007 was hosted by the USC Law development and graduate relations office March 21 at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles.
Over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, more than 35 USC Law alumni and friends of the law school, who are partners and associates with various law firms and organizations, heard Dean Edward J. McCaffery present his vision for growing the law school and doing so with the help of the Law Firm Challenge.
Launched last year, the Law Firm Challenge is an alumni giving program designed to provide a fun and competitive way to support the Annual Fund.
This year’s Challenge – which officially runs from April 4 to June 30 – will involve more than 550 graduates at 42 firms and organizations all striving to achieve an overall participation goal of 75 percent.
"The Challenge is about increasing participation rates per firm and organization via a friendly competition with each other. But it is also about building a visible critical mass of support, which means showing to alumni, law students and the legal community that USC Law has the support of these identifiable members of the Trojan Family," said Eric Wang, associate director of graduate relations.
"The graduates come from law firms, public interest organizations, and even businesses, such as movie studios. We're hoping the Law Firm Challenge will continue to grow in support."
The winners of the inaugural Challenge were O'Melveny & Myers, with 95 percent participation (among firms with more than 30 alumni); Irell & Manella, with 100 percent (11 to 29 alumni); and a three-way tie of 100 percent participation among firms with up to 10 alumni between Feinberg Mindel Brandt Klein & Kline; Folger Levin & Kahn and Weston Benshoof Rochefort Rubalcava & MacCuish.
