“We hold the dinner every year to honor distinguished alumni,” said BLSA member Lovette Brooks.

Students Shasta Smith and Cecilia Valentine were also awarded with the “Outstanding 3L” award, and Jennifer Douglass was recognized as the recipient of this year’s Public Interest Grant, sponsored by BLSA in conjunction with the Public Interest Law Foundation.  Alum of the year, Daron Watts, was the evening’s keynote speaker.

Although the majority of attendees was comprised of current students, “a nice amount of alumni” attended the event as well, Brooks said.

With a membership of approximately 50 students, BLSA throughout the year also holds academic workshops, Fireside Chat and Party Bus events, and the semi-annual Soul Food Luncheon.
