Course Description

This course is designed to equip lawyers and business professionals with essential skills to utilize generative AI technologies within their legal practice. Students will learn to develop AI strategies and innovation frameworks, evaluate AI tools to utilize in their legal practice, and address the ethical, privacy, and governance-related issues that are unique to AI and the law. Students will leave with actionable AI strategies and implementation roadmaps that empower them to drive innovation while managing risk in their legal practice.

Lead Professors

Timothy Fox

Tim has an extensive background in technology and the law. He is currently the Sr. Director of Innovation and Solutions at Ogletree Deakins. In this role, Tim helps implement the firm’s innovation and generative AI strategies. Prior to joining Ogletree, Tim helped found and lead LegalMation as its Chief Product and Information Officer. Before that, Tim was a practicing attorney for over 7 years with a variety of firms, focusing primarily on patent and technology-related litigation. Prior to attending law school, Tim spent 5 years working in tech for a Fortune 500 company. He is also a frequent speaker and author on AI, data, and innovation in the legal space. Tim is also a member of the Information and Technology Advisory Committee for the California Courts where he makes recommendations on how to improve the administration of justice through technology.

Beverly Rich

Beverly Rich, J.D., Ph.D., is Vice President of AI and Innovation at UnitedLex. She previously served as a partner at Messner Reeves, focusing on AI and litigation, and as Practice Innovation Counsel at Ogletree Deakins. She earned her Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the USC Marshall School of Business and was an assistant professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the University of Utah Eccles School of Business. Her research has appeared in Harvard Business Review, Organization Science, and the Journal of Law and Empirical Analysis. Beverly brings over a decade of experience at the intersection of law, AI, and innovation that spans legal practice, academia, and applied product development.
