Brian Hoffstadt
Brian M. Hoffstadt is the presiding justice for one of the divisions of the California Court of Appeal in Los Angeles. Prior to serving as a presiding justice, he served as an associate justice on the Court of Appeal for over a decade; four years as a Los Angeles Superior Court judge; three and a half years as a partner in Jones Day’s Issues and Appeals practice group; more than six years as an Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting criminal cases; and three years in legal policy work in Washington, D.C. Right out of law school, he clerked for Ninth Circuit Judge Cynthia Holcomb Hall and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. For many years, Hoffstadt has been a teacher to judges, lawyers and law students on a variety of topics. He is the co-author of Evidence Law: Practice, Problems and Policy, the author of California Criminal Discovery and a regular contributor to the Daily Journal.
