La Raza Law Students Association recognized Nevada District Court Judge Valorie Vega ’82 and Attorney Cynthia Hernandez ’00 for their distinguished work in public interest during its annual Judges & Lawyers Night on Tuesday, March 28, at Town and Gown.

Judges & Lawyers Night was established 10 years ago as a small networking event for USC Law students and for alumni working in the Los Angeles legal arena. Over the years, the event has grown into one of the foremost opportunities for law students to interact with members of USC’s renowned alumni network and other prominent lawyers and judges in the community.

Last year’s event was the largest to date and drew a number of well-known Southern California community leaders, including California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno, Appellate Court Justices Paul Boland and Candace Cooper, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley. La Raza was pleased to generate a large turnout and another exciting evening this year.

The evening started off with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as live music by a seven-piece mariachi band. After the guests arrived and had the opportunity to mingle, the program began with a keynote address by Public Defender Michael P. Judge.
