Annual luncheon connects students and attorneys
Alumni working in fields such as corporate law, entertainment, public interest and international business shared their experiences and advice with first-year USC Law students at the 2008 Mentor Lunch Feb. 29.
Nearly 200 mentors, including some USC Law faculty members, mingled with more than 150 students during the annual luncheon, held at Town and Gown. The event introduces 1Ls to alumni working in fields that match the students' interests, and often fosters lasting relationships.
This year, Mentor Lunch participants were grouped at tables based on their professional interests rather than paired one-on-one. The groupings allowed for more interaction between students and alumni.
Dean Robert K. Rasmussen thanked the students for attending and the alumni for generously giving their time to the benefit of the next generation of USC Law graduates.
"We could not be the law school that we are without our alumni," Rasmussen said. "Our alumni help you in law school in some ways you see and in some ways you don't see."
Aside from volunteering their time to mentor students and help with job searches, alumni also provide gifts to the law school that support USC Law programs, he said.
