Court of Appeal visits USC Law

Uprooting judges, attorneys, clerks and bailiffs in the name of education, the California Court of Appeal held session at USC Law April 2.

Second district, division seven, Justices Dennis M. Perluss, Fred Woods, Laurie D. Zelon and Frank Jackson heard eight cases from their regular calendar in three sessions, which were filled with USC Law students. This is the Court of Appeal's fourth visit to the law school in as many years.

The visit was coordinated by Legal Writing and Advocacy Director Jean Rosenbluth and Associate Director Rebecca Lonergan to expose students to the real work of attorneys and judges.

A group of first-year students joined the judges for lunch in the Faculty Lounge. Dean Robert K. Rasmussen thanked the judges and their support staff for their participation. The chance for students to watch a Court of Appeal session and meet the judges face-to-face is invaluable, he said.

"It's always an honor for us to have a real, live session in our midst," Rasmussen said. "What this means to our students we could not replicate on our own."
