Class Gift 2007

USC Gould School of Law • May 11, 2007

The Class of 2007 has shown its support of USC Law with 85 percent participation in the Class Gift program.

The gifts will benefit 19 separate funds and organizations at the USC Gould School of Law, including the Class of 2007 Scholarship Fund, the Southern California Law Review and the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association.

The campaign kicked off in February and closed April 30. Under the guidance of co-chairs Ryan Oliver, Reed Glyer and Yem Mai, the 22 volunteers of the Class Gift Committee contacted every graduating student and asked them to participate – a signal that they value their USC Law experience.

"The 3L Gift Program gives us the rare chance to break national records and vault USC up to a Top 10 law school,” Glyer said. “An opportunity such as this doesn't come along very often, so we must embrace it wholeheartedly and use it to the fullest."

Students who participate in the Class Gift pledge to make a contribution to USC Law during the three years following graduation. More students chose to support the Class of 2007 Scholarship Fund. The money will help endow a scholarship that will allow future students to attend USC Law regardless of their financial situation, Oliver noted.

“A scholarship from the Class of 1967 made it possible for me to attend USC Law,” said 3L Diana Roman. “I wanted to honor their spirit of giving by being a giver myself, so I pledged to the Class of 2007 Scholarship Fund.”

Other organizations at the top of the list include the law library (and information technology improvements), the Animal Law Society and the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF).

“PILF is an outstanding student organization and giving to PILF helps twice,” said 3L Sarah Rackoff, former PILF president. “First, it helps USC students fund their experiences in public interest law. Second, by funding students, PILF helps provide legal services to underserved communities.”

Third-year student Shil Goswami participated in the Class Gift by supporting the Post-Conviction Justice Project, an organization she says meant a lot to her during her time at the law school.

"Another reason I gave is that the amount of participation we have in this project affects the way outsiders view USC Law, and I want them to know how much we, the student body, support our law school,” she said.
