Associate dean and co-founder of PILF leaves legacy of service
—By Rizza Barnes
Associate Dean Lisa Mead ’89 leaves quite a legacy at USC Law. During her 15 years as a member of the faculty, she has helped countless students as a dean and mentor. According to Greg Pleasants JD/MSW ’07, “Lisa Mead has been the primary enabling factor for those of us who wanted to go into public service.”

Prior to joining USC Law in 1993, Mead held positions as directing attorney and law fellow of the Homeless Assistance Project of Public Counsel, a Los Angeles public interest agency, and as state office program coordinator for the Texas Coalition for Juvenile Justice.
As a law student at USC, she co-founded the USC Public Interest Law Foundation and has since served as a member of the organization’s board. She is a recipient of the USC Student Bar Association Faculty Appreciation Award, the USC Public Interest Law Foundation Outstanding Graduate Award, and the USC Miller-Johnson Equal Justice Award.
Mead offered a farewell to students and alumni:
“I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to serve USC Law and its amazing students and to have been allowed to create the Office of Public Service.

"I am so grateful to have learned so much from and been so inspired by all of you. It is you, as students and graduates, who are the ones that go out into the world, not to lecture or counsel, but to let your works show what service and justice can bring to people in the way of a better life and a more just society. You are the ones who so effectively demonstrate the importance of service.
"Thank you all for all you have given to me.”
