The Public Interest Law Foundation enjoyed a record-setting evening during its annual auction March 8. The student group raised $38,700 between ticket sales and the auction itself, along with $15,000 in cash donations, for a total of more than $50,000.

“The outpouring of support demonstrates the USC Law community's dedication to public interest as well as to supporting their fellow students,” said 2L Sarah Rackoff, president of PILF. “We could not be more appreciative of the students, faculty, alumni and administrators who made the night such a success.”

Held at USC’s Town and Gown, the auction’s “Sweet Sixteen” attracted more than 500 alumni, faculty and students who bid on items ranging from artwork to outings with professors in an effort to raise funds for PILF’s summer grants and scholarships.

A BAR/BRI review course garnered the highest bid of $3,300. Other top sellers included:

  • Staples suite for a Clippers vs. Kings game — $1,500
  • Dinner for four plus tickets to a Lakers game with Dean Matthew L. Spitzer and Lakers General Counsel Jim Perzik — $1,250
  • Poolside barbecue at Professor Scott Bice’s house — $850
  • Pool party at Professor Jody Armour’s house — $800
  • Professor Bice’s bow tie — $250

“PILF would like to thank all of the students, alumni, donors and professors who contributed to and attended this event,” said 2L Dawn Kennedy, vice president of PILF, who also acknowledged the evening’s masters of ceremonies, 3L Luke Sisak and 2L Lovette Brooks.
