Lerner will guide law fellows

USC Law Prof. Jack Lerner has been named a Faculty Fellow at the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership & Policy (CCLP).
Lerner, who directs the USC Intellectual Property and Technology Law Clinic, will be involved with research projects and public programs as well as provide guidance to law fellows at the Annenberg Center. He is the first fellow selected outside the Annenberg School.
“Jack has been engaged in some issues that are very important to the Center, namely privacy, the impact of communication technology on the practice of journalism, and a variety of legal issues,” said Geoffrey Baum, managing director of USC Annenberg CCLP. “His areas of expertise will be great assets to our work and he has distinguished himself as a thoughtful leader on these issues through both his public advocacy and work with students at the USC Gould School of Law.”
USC Annenberg CCLP was established in 2007 to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and professionals, and the next generation of communication leaders. By conducting cutting-edge research, CCLP fosters a variety of insights into some of today's most challenging issues.
“The digital age has seen rapid changes in the way we interact with information, from the ways we communicate with each other to how we inform ourselves about the world,” said Lerner. “These changes have profound implications for democracy, civil society, and the law, and in order to understand them fully, legal scholars, communication scholars, and others must work together. CCLP is an ideal place for such collaboration, and I’m excited and honored to be able to participate in the important work it has been doing.”
Lerner received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and law degree from Harvard Law School. He practiced IP law with the Palo Alto, Calif., firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. and in 2004 was a research fellow with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School.
Before joining USC, Lerner was Clinic Fellow at the Samuelson Law, Technology, and Public Policy Clinic at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
