A recent book by University of Southern California Gould School of Law Professor Nancy Staudt has been featured in the Recent Publications section of “Harvard Law Review.”  “The Judicial Power of the Purse:  How Courts Fund National Defense in Times of Crisis” (University of Chicago Press, 2011) highlights the budgetary effects of federal court decisions on tax controversies that go in favor of (or against) the interests of the government.
The review reads, in part, “Staudt’s thesis dynamically expands the scholarly understanding of the macro-level factors that influence judicial decision-making.  This book challenges conventional perceptions of federal power dynamics and revives the debate over the extent to which considerations of national interests should sway judicial preferences.”
Staudt, a nationally renowned tax and tax policy scholar, joined USC Law this year from Northwestern University School of Law.
