About 30 public service organizations will be at USC Law for the second annual Public Interest Career Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
Hosted by the Career Services Office, the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Office of Public Service, the fair will connect students with details on pro bono and career opportunities and provide background information on some of the many public service groups in the Los Angeles area.
“It’s a great way to meet people who work with these organizations and talk to them one-on-one in a smaller context,” said Malissa Barnwell-Scott, student programs advisor with OPS.
The law school is using the fair as an opportunity for students to learn how agencies utilize students, said Lisa Mead, associate dean and head of OPS. Many of the organizations will be represented by employees who are graduates of USC Law.
“Students can network at this event and get a head start on finding summer positions, seek pro bono volunteer opportunities, and make contacts for post-graduate employment,” said 2L Lindsay Toczylowski, PILF president.
PILF will be on hand to provide information about grants for public interest work and the organization’s more than 30 pro bono clinics held throughout the year.
Hosting the Public Interest Career Fair also allows USC Law to show the legal community its support of public interest work.
“We are also using the fair as an opportunity to share with students and public service organizations information about our externship program, our Loan Repayment Assistance Program, our pro bono and public service efforts at the law school, and ways we want to engage the community,” Dean Mead said.
The fair will be held in Crocker Plaza or, in case of inclement weather, in the east lobby of the law school. Snacks will be provided.
