Attorneys from small and mid-sized law firms socialized with USC Law students during a March 6 reception at the University Club, hosted by the Career Services Office.

The second-annual event provided students and attorneys the opportunity to network in a relaxed setting with light hors d'oeuvres and drinks. The CSO created the event because students and attorneys from smaller firms do not have the opportunity to meet through traditional career services programs such as on-campus interviews, said Matt DeGrushe, assistant dean and dean of career services.

"The reception was a comfortable atmosphere to get to know practicing lawyers and make connections," said 1L Jesse Koppin, who attended to find out more about small firm life from the attorneys who work there.

"More importantly, the event was great for showing that there are alternatives to 'selling your soul to a big firm,'" Koppin said. "I learned that you can have a life while practicing law and still be involved in rewarding, important cases."
