McConnell will present “In Praise of Losers: Patrick Henry and the Deepest Principle of the Constitution.”

WHAT: The Hon. Michael W. McConnell, circuit judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, will present the 2007 Justice Lester W. Roth Lecture. A law professor for 17 years before becoming a judge in 2002, McConnell has written widely on such subjects as freedom of religion, segregation, unenumerated rights, and constitutional history and theory. He has argued 11 cases before the Supreme Court.

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m.

WHERE: USC’s Town & Gown, 3551 Trousdale Parkway, Los Angeles, 90089. Reception will follow.

DETAILS: In addition to serving on the Court of Appeals since 2002, McConnell teaches part time as Presidential Professor at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, and as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and Stanford Law School. McConnell was assistant general counsel of the Office of Management and Budget and assistant to the solicitor general of the U.S. Department of Justice. He was nominated for federal judicial service in 2001 by Pres. George W. Bush.
