Starr, Chemerinsky, Brown and Cruz will examine upcoming cases

The USC Gould School of Law will present “U.S. Supreme Court: A Preview,” featuring distinguished legal scholars Dean Kenneth W. Starr of Pepperdine Law School, Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of Irvine Law School, and Professors Rebecca Brown and David B. Cruz of USC Law.

The symposium, moderated by USC Law Professor Elizabeth Garrett, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the law school.

The panelists will discuss and debate the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court term, which begins the following week. They will look at the dynamics of the Court and how the presidential election may affect it.

Starr, Chemerinsky, Brown and Cruz will also examine several high-profile cases involving criminal law and First Amendment rights, as well as civil rights and terrorism cases. Voting rights, environmental cases and business issues will also be addressed.

“We plan to discuss the leading cases on the Court's docket from a variety of perspectives,” said Rebecca Brown, Newton Professor of Constitutional Law. “We hope the audience will develop a deeper understanding of the kinds of considerations that will be at work as the Court faces the issues before it this term.”

A reception will follow the discussion. Please RSVP for this event and secure complimentary parking by e-mailing the USC Law Events Office or calling (213) 740-3841.
