Event features empirical and experimental scholarship on legal issues

The USC Gould School of Law has provided a home for both student and faculty research and collaboration for more than a century. This autumn, leading legal scholars from across the nation will descend on USC Law to present their latest findings.

USC Law will host the fourth annual Conference on Empirical Legal Studies (CELS) on Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21.

The conference will feature original empirical and experimental legal scholarship by experts from a diverse range of fields and is jointly organized by the CELS board and the USC Gould School of Law.

CELS encourages and develops empirical and experimental scholarship on legal issues by providing scholars with an opportunity to present and discuss their work with an interdisciplinary group of people interested in the empirical study of law.

Additionally, the conference provides a forum for conversation among scholars interested in a variety of disciplines, including law, economics, political science, demographics, finance, psychology and sociology.

The conference’s audience will include paper presenters, commentators, and other attendees. The goal is productive discourse on both particular papers and appropriate methodologies.

CELS welcomes paper submissions in all areas of empirical and experimental legal scholarship. Submissions from junior scholars are encouraged. For more information on submitting a paper, click here (http://law.usc.edu/cels/submissions.cfm). Submissions are due by July 15.

Anyone is welcome to register for and attend the conference, regardless of whether he or she submits a paper and whether or not that paper is accepted.

For more information on the conference, including the schedule and travel/hotel information, please visit USC’s CELS homepage (link to http://law.usc.edu/cels/index.cfm).
