The USC Gould School of Law has launched a new Master of Studies in Law (MSL) in Sports Law and Negotiation, designed to prepare professionals to lead at the intersection of law, business and sports.

Building on the strength of USC Gould’s established MSL program, which aims to educate non-lawyer professionals on the legal aspects of various industries, the new specialized master’s degree reflects the school’s continued expansion into high-demand areas of legal studies. The program equips students with practical skills to structure, negotiate and execute deals involving athletes, teams and media partners.

Offered online or in a hybrid format, the MSL in Sports Law and Negotiation curriculum emphasizes real-world application, with training in contract analysis, negotiation strategy and regulatory frameworks that shape the business of sports. At the epicenter of the sports world in Los Angeles, USC Gould connects students with faculty and alumni who are active practitioners, ensuring graduates are prepared to contribute immediately in high-stakes, deal-driven environments, including athlete representation, NIL, intellectual property advisory, team operations and more.

“Our goal is to train professionals with the legal knowledge and negotiation skills needed to become leaders in one of the most dynamic and growing industries — sports,” says USC Gould Dean Franita Tolson. “USC’s innovative MSL in Sports Law and Negotiation program gives students the tools not only to excel today, but also to navigate the challenges and changes of tomorrow.”

Enrollment is now open for the Master of Studies in Law (MSL) in Sports Law and Negotiation from the USC Gould School of Law. This program is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree. For more information and to apply, visit gould.law/msl or email msl@law.usc.edu.
