This course provides students with a deep immersion into federal court litigation, with a focus on effective oral and written advocacy in the context of intellectual property litigation. Current issues in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets law will be used as a vehicle for students to learn and hone their advocacy skills. Among other assignments, students will brief and argue motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, Markman (claim construction) hearings, motions in limine, and—time permitting—an appeal. This course is targeted to students who have a strong interest in litigation generally, who wish to focus on honing their written and oral advocacy skills, and who have an interest in intellectual property.
