To : Interested Graduate and Professional Students
The University of Southern California's Center for Law, History and Culture (CLHC), a joint program of the Law School and the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, is devoted to encouraging the study of law as a cultural and historical institution. We are seeking applications for graduate fellows in law, humanities, and social sciences to carry out such research. Students with dissertation interests focusing in the area of legal studies are particularly encouraged to apply. At least four fellows will be chosen.
Fellows will receive stipends ranging from $500 to $2000. Applicants may solicit funds to travel to archives, present their work at conferences, purchase books, and cover other project-related expenses. Those selected will be required to submit receipts for their expenses and a brief summary of their fellowship activities at the end of the school year. Fellows will be expected to attend CLHC seminars, book talks, and workshops with some regularity throughout the academic year. They will also have the opportunity to present their own work, either formally or informally.
Applications should include a statement of interest, description of current research activities (such as seminar projects and dissertation proposals), two letters of recommendation, and a current transcript. They should also include a budget that describes in some detail how the amount requested will be spent.
