Oct. 27 event spotlights Entertainment Law and Business
— By Lori Craig
Barry Diller, chairman and CEO of InterAcriveCorp and chairman on Expedia, will be the keynote speaker at the 2007 Institute on Entertainment Law and Business Saturday, Oct. 27, on the University Park Campus.
Presented by the USC Gould School of Law and the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the theme of the Institute is “Hollywood Fake-Out: Everything You Wanted to Know about the Entertainment Industry but Were Afraid to Ask.”
Diller will share stories and words of wisdom from his years in the entertainment business during a luncheon from 1:10 to 2:20 p.m. in USC’s Town & Gown.
Diller has served as chief executive for a number of predecessor companies engaged in media and interactivity prior to the formation of IAC. He served as chairman and chief executive officer of Fox, Inc., and was responsible for the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company in addition to Fox's motion picture operations. He also was chairman and chief executive of Paramount Pictures Corporation.
More than a dozen additional sessions during the all-day Institute address a range of business and legal issues faced by lawyers, agents, producers and accountants in the entertainment industry.
Other speakers attending the Institute are Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros. Television Group; Warren N. Lieberfarb, considered by many to be “the father of the DVD”; and Jordan Hoffner, director of content partnerships for YouTube. The panels cover such topics as copyright updates, making money on the Internet, sports branding and the new 360 deal.
Law students are encouraged to participate in the Institute and may register for a reduced price of $100; the regular price is $340.
