Gray Davis and Bill Simon, Opponents in the 2002 Race for California Governor, Debate Future of California, Wednesday

USC Gould’s Institute for Corporate Counsel will also feature remarks by former SEC Chair Chris Cox, USC’s Dan Schnur and an array of prominent practitioners


WHAT: USC Gould School of Law and the Los Angeles Country Bar Association are bringing together Los Angeles area in-house and outside counsel for their 31th annual Institute for Corporate Counsel. The event will focus on the intersection of law, business and politics.

WHO: Former California Gov. Gray Davis and Bill Simon, who faced off in the 2002 California gubernatorial race, will discuss how the recent elections will impact businesses in California. Manny Medrano, broadcast journalist and attorney, will moderate.

Other highlights include:

Hon. Chris Cox, former SEC chairman, will explore the deeper currents of risk lurking beneath Washington and California’s balance sheets.

Dan Schnur, director of the Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at USC, will deliver the lunchtime address focusing on how advances in communications technology and new rules for political fundraising have fundamentally changed the way campaigns are run and won.

John Rogovin, general counsel of Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., Chris Walther, general counsel of Activision Blizzard, Inc. and Aimee Weisner, general counsel of Edwards Lifesciences Corp. will discuss transborder legal challenges.
