While USC Law JD candidates are busy with clerkships, internships and jobs across the country, the law school is hosting 96 students from 26 foreign countries for the Summer Law & English (SLE) program.

Now in its seventh year, SLE provides four weeks of study for lawyers, recent law graduates, government officials, and others who want to improve their English skills in a legal context.  Many will continue on and enter LLM programs in the U.S.; 70 SLE students will join USC Law in the fall.

“The program offers an opportunity for foreign students to boost their English skills – both oral and written – to prepare for more intense study of the American legal system,” says Anne Marlenga, Assistant Director of Graduate & International Programs at USC Law.

Activities throughout the city augment the students’ studies.  This summer, students have enjoyed an afternoon at Santa Monica pier and toured the Pasadena courthouse.  In the coming weeks, students will tour the Getty Museum, take in a Dodger game and visit a downtown Los Angeles law firm.
